Mrs. Horne first asked Jesus into her heart & committed her life to Christ in Junior High school. She was baptized as a child but felt compelled to be baptized by full immersion during her college years.
Mrs. Horne believes that her gifts are singing and teaching. Mrs. Horne was diagnosed as “severely Dyslexic” and “left sided” (reading from right to left rather than left to right) as a child. This has resulted in a passion to love and teach children. She has served as a Sunday school teacher, as a youth and children’s camp counselor in California with various church groups. She was a full time camp counselor during her college summers. She has been a youth mentor with Young Life and various other youth groups. She has been certified as a Laubach Literacy Instructor with United Way. Mrs. Horne substituted for the Phenix City School District while the children were at Sherwood.
Mrs. Horne home schooled her twins, Gabbi & Josh Harp for the first few years of their formal education. They also attended Sherwood for a couple years. A desire for a more “challenging” education led them to visit Veritas. They were very impressed and came back and spent the day at the school. After getting to know them, Mr. Austin felt that they would be a welcome addition to the school. And after finding out about her background and her passion for children he asked her if she would consider applying to teach at Veritas. The twins started school at Veritas in the 08-09 school year. Mrs. Horne began teaching the fourth grade where her children once again are in her classroom.
Mrs. Horne has a B.A. in English from the University of Kentucky (Go Wildcats!). Ms. Horne’s early years were in “yankee” territory, but has been in Alabama for the last 14+ years and is told she is becoming “southernized”.
Mrs. Horne is a member of Golden Acres Baptist Church.
Mrs. Horne was married this past summer to Dana Horne.
